Suitable for all levels of experience. A two-day course exploring drawing and painting techniques. We begin with charcoal drawing, using simple yet effective techniques that help us capture true proportion and tone. We then move onto oil painting using the Alla Prima (wet-in-wet) painting technique. Participants can choose from still life subjects, setting up and lighting an arrangement of objects in the studio to work from, or bring in photograph(s) to work from as reference. The photo-reference option allows participants to link the work on the workshop with their own artistic projects or themes. All learners have a complete or almost complete oil painting by the end of the course.

"I loved loved doing my first art classes with you at Stroud College and will definitely be booking again as I never have time to practice. The response I have had from my oil painting of a glass bottle has been really encouraging - you have opened my eyes THANK YOU."

" I wanted to learn to draw to further my Archaeological research and arranged six private lessons with Dan. I really enjoyed my time with him and feel I have really kick started my drawing practice and much improved my ability to really see what I am looking at. We covered a number of exercises and materials in his studio and went out on drawing expeditions in the countryside and in Stroud. He used examples of master drawers such as Van Gough and Hockney to show different ways of approaching subjects and was very insightful on the practice and philosophy of perception. As well as being a great teacher he is very good company and for me got the balance between instruction, encouragement and constructive criticism just right. I would highly recommend him to anyone wanting to make rapid progress in drawing."
